  • From a Sketch to Satellite Manufacturing: Reflex Celebrates Three Years of Remarkable Achievements

In May 2021, co-founders Walter and Alex established Reflex with nothing but a bold vision and a satellite sketch. They recognized an enormous opportunity and believed deeply in their potential impact.

What have we achieved in three years?

  • Reflex now has almost 50 employees, operating in both Munich and Berlin.

  • We acquired a commercial customer, Media Broadcast Satellite, meaning we elevated our demo mission into a fully-fledged commercial mission. We’ve already signed a contract for our second commercial mission which will kick off this month.

  • Within our first year, we were selected by the European Commission to conduct a study leading to the development of IRIS2, coordinating the contributions of 14 European entities.

  • After our seed round we’ve reached over 11 million euros in funding.

  • We’ve completed projects for the European Commission, ESA, Berlin Partners, and the Bavarian government.

  • Satellites are the core of our business, and we’ve already partnered with Telespazio Germany for mission control services, HPS for deorbiting technology, and Flexell Space for solar cell technology.

  • Our study on Flat Sats for ESA-HAR saw our team designing a range of concepts capable of meeting the requirements for a new generation of high-aspect ratio satellite use cases.

  • For the ESAF project, we designed and printed a star tracker bracket based on generative designs to prove that thermal deformations can be accurately determined using integrated sensors.

  • As the Prime of the UN:IO consortium, we were a founding member of UNIO Enterprise, a company dedicated to advancing European connectivity.

  • This year marks another pivotal milestone: the opening of our first satellite production facility: the MicroFactory. Upon completion, it will enable us to manufacture up to ten custom satellites annually.

  • Shortly thereafter, our first satellite, SIGI, is scheduled to launch in October.

Our swift expansion and triumphs in the competitive NewSpace environment stand as testament to our team’s extraordinary hard work and dedication. Our accomplishments are notable, especially considering our size and the industry’s notorious complexity for startups—and we’re committed to maintaining our momentum.

This anniversary means a lot to us. It is a celebration of our journey to date, and a commitment to forging future successes. Now get ready to read our update three years from now.
